Current global situation and emerging risks for foot-and-mouth disease

Virtual
20 Apr 2026 -

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), through their joint Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs), are pleased to invite you to the first session of a two-part webinar series on foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) to be held on Monday, 20 April 2026, from 09:00 to 10:30 CEST.

FMD remains one of the most contagious and economically significant transboundary animal diseases, with major implications for food security, livelihoods, and trade. Recent developments, including the spread of SAT1 and SAT2 serotypes beyond Africa and outbreaks in Europe, highlight the need for strengthened global coordination.

This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the current global FMD situation, including epidemiological trends, risk pathways, and key challenges in surveillance and response.
