
Joint workshop of the GF-TADs Middle East for foot-and-mouth disease and peste des petits ruminants regional roadmaps
This joint workshop brings together key stakeholders to review progress, share knowledge, and strengthen collaboration toward the regional control and eradication of two major transboundary animal diseases: Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR).
This high-level technical event will support participating countries in evaluating their national strategies, updating regional roadmaps, and aligning their activities with the Global FMD Control Strategy and PPR Global Eradication Strategy.
Objectives
- FMD: Assess current FMD risks, guide national control strategies, enhance PCP-FMD implementation, promote governance and regional coordination, validate a regional FMD strategy and update the PCP-FMD roadmap through 2027.
- PPR: Evaluate current epidemiological situation, enhance the stepwise PPR eradication approach following the PPR Monitoring Assessment Tool (PMAT), and guide countries in aligning with the PPR Global Control and Eradication strategy (GCES) and Blueprint (Episystem-based eradication).
- Joint focus: Strengthen governance through Regional Advisory Groups, reinforce regional epidemiology and laboratory networks, and identify priority support needs and cross-border collaboration mechanisms.
Key outcomes
- Updated Middle East regional roadmaps for both FMD and PPR.
- Strengthened national and regional strategies aligned with global frameworks.
- Practical recommendations on surveillance, vaccination strategies, diagnostics, and regional coordination.
- Enhanced understanding and application of strategic frameworks and tools including the PCP-FMD and PMAT.
- Mapping of technical and financial needs and development partner engagement.
Event format
The workshop will be in-person with select virtual participation options. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English and Arabic.
