
4th GF-TADs West Africa roadmap meeting for foot-and-mouth disease
The 4th meeting of the West Africa FMD Roadmap is organized virtually under the umbrella of the GF-TADs, by its FMD Working Group, during 13-14 December 2023. The meeting bring together representatives of the Member Countries belonging to the West Africa FMD roadmap, with the objectives to share information on FMD virus circulation within the West Africa FMD virus ecosystem, assess the progress on FMD control of West African Members, support the implementation of the vaccination strategies, share experiences of successful control measures, gain understanding of the progressive control pathway principles and implementation, update the membership of the Regional Advisory Group for West Africa to monitor and follow-up the regional FMD roadmap recommendations, update the roadmap for regional FMD control up to 2027 and enhance the epidemiology (RESEPI) and laboratory (RESOLAB) networks.
West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo) are in FMD virus Pool 5. FMD is endemic in all countries in the region and four different FMD virus serotypes circulate: O, A, SAT 1, SAT 2.
